Pillars of Training

As a trainer, who just got re-certified :) I have certain tenants of fitness that I strongly believe everyone should be training for. Of course, we have the basic five movements: push, pull, hinge, squat, and carry. But why are we training? To look good? To be strong? To be healthy? To live FOREVER?

IDK about you but I train for.

Strength: I want to be strong, stronger than anyone. Able to help lift heavy things like the Hulk. and It's just fun. There are levels to this like anything else, the first is being the person people call to move furniture. The second is feeling like an acrobat in the gym. The last and best is winning titles and recognition for your hard work!

Endurance: I define endurance as both a mental and physical attribute. You got to have the will to last through the storm cause there's going to be some storms in life, and you have to still be standing when they're over. Physically can you run down several flights of stairs without being winded? What if your life depended on it? Can you get out of a burning house? Or run away from danger?

Mobility: is an extension of flexibility but this time your body's joints are withstanding a load while moving through their range of motion. Arguably the other two attributes don't matter if your body is so tight and tense you get hurt. Stretching is important, flexibility is more than a wishful thought. It's something to work towards and one of the best injury prevention things you can undertake.

Through these 3 pillars much like a stool, we can do anything life demands of us. Being strong provides a baseline of protection and stability against danger and accidents. In addition to the natural benefits of building up your skeletal system.

Flexibility and mobility go hand in hand. Tightness or pain throughout the body can often be chalked up to a lack of stretching. I CANNOT emphasize how important it is to stretch regularly, stretching helps blood flow as well as just help your body move around and move nutrients. Strength training helps your muscles become denser and safer. While endurance just works to provide an easier quality of life and lessens the stress on your body.

I could talk about the other factors that affect growth. Like sleep, stress and recovery cycles, diets, genetics, and training history.

But for now, I bid you adieu!
