Building Strength in Chaos: Training When Life Isn’t Perfect
It would be nice to live in a perfect training bubble, perfect sleep, perfect meals, hitting your macros, low stress, consistent focus. But that’s not real life. Some days, the gym is therapy. Other days, it’s a jungle.
Lucky for you & I, progress doesn’t require perfect conditions, it requires grit and the will to push through life's chaos through the imperfect.
The last two years of my life have been a flurry of changes and growth, but it's during that time you can decide what really matters. I've moved into my first home, I've finished school and am standing on the doorstep of graduation (something that took me eight years). At times it feels like I'm behind a car going 90 mph and all I can do is steer and keep looking forward. Through it all I've been tested, questioned my own motivations. But I've come out the other side better fellas. I've found a level of peace and determination that you don't get by taking the easy route. The road less traveled.
So I'll ask,. You know what needs to be done, you have your goals. What's stopping you?
You'll never have enough money saved, you'll never be rested enough, or have the confidence you think is necessary. They'll never understand you until you give them one thousand reasons too.
So why wait? Every rep is a chance to get stronger, every effort moves you one step closer to who you want to become. I'm guilty of this too, being nervous to post. Being nervous to be myself and express my opinion. Being nervous or worse lazy is a theft from your future self, and it builds the habit of waiting.
Rarely in life do the stars align perfectly. And yet if you want to achieve your goals you have to have a fire, an endurance level capable of outlasting those around you. You have to learn like I did that failure is apart of the game. Failure is where you test what works and what doesn't.
Failure can't define you if you get up and step right over it.
I've dropped out of college three times before graduation, I've failed more reps then most people do during a workout.
So next time you're in the gym, remember this.
You're not just trying to get big and strong, you're trying to learn true mental discipline. How to push reps to the point of real struggle, and still complete what you started. You're trying to teach your mind and body that your goals matter more then your wants, that through enough effort and consistency you can literally change your body, change your life.
You might not always get 8 hours of rest, you might miss some protein or carbs. Feeling bad for yourself does nothing but prevent you from being better.
Use that energy to fix the variables, fight the fight and keep going until you hit the goal you set for yourself.
No one is coming to save you, Except you.
Failure & Chaos aren't meant to stop you, they're meant to prepare you for the next level.
If you can only succeed when life’s easy, you’ll have a hell of a life and I pray for you. But if you can manage to wring success from the jaws of difficulty. One day you'll be thanking yourself, instead of hating yourself.
